who we areWho are we, and why do we care? We are the Washington State Friends of the USS Olympia (F.O.T.O.). Among our leaders are familiar faces, former Governors Dan Evans and Chris Gregoire, former Secretaries of State Ralph Munro and Sam Reed, former Chief Justice Gerry Alexander and Admiral Tom Hayward, USN (Ret.). We care because of her history and service to our country, and because she is named for our State Capital City.
We in Washington State haven’t done much to help her in the past 125 years. George Dewey told us we should be ashamed that we had “undervalued the ship named for our capital.” Now, she really needs our help.
How can we make amends for 125 years of neglect? We can raise money to help the Navy and the Independence Seaport Museum save her. A small donation from a few thousand Washingtonians could make the difference. Your money will go directly to the preservation of this iconic vessel, the cruiser USS Olympia.
Our sponsor is the South Sound Maritime Heritage Association, a 40-year-old 501 c 3 organization. Dr. Bob Peck, president. |
